down east humor...

- "Had to shoot the dog today.."
"Was he mad ?"
"Twerent too damn pleased."

- Thermos. It keeps hot things hot, and cold things cold.
How do it know ?

- I once stopped and asked an older gentleman in Maine how to get to such and such a place.
He said, (in that thick downeastern accent
"Well, you want to go up the road a bit, ... and when you see the big red bahn, ... you want to take  a right,  .... just watch out for the bump in the road..."
"Thanks"
"Ahyup"

best. frappe. ever.

After the best. hamburger. ever., I made a ChucksItsSummerAndItSoundsWickedGood CoffeeCoffee Frappe.

recipe :
-some coffee ice cream
-a cup of fresh brewed coffee
-some milk

put it in a blender, and viola : you have the
best. frappe. ever.

Note :

Some words used in the Boston area but not in many other American English dialects (or with different meanings) are:

  • bubbler (bublah) or water bubbler – 'drinking fountain'. This term is also used in Wisconsin (and Australia).
  • frappe (pronounced /fræp/ – 'a blend of ice cream, milk, and syrup' (In Boston milkshake refers to a concoction without ice cream, but merely with milk blended with flavored syrup by shaking.)
  • Hoodsie – A small cup of ice cream, the kind that comes with a flat wooden spoon (from HP Hood, the dairy that sells them.) Elsewhere occasionally known as adixie cup.
  • jimmies– 'chocolate sprinkles' ( I always thought these were named after my uncle)
  • milk shake – 'drink composed of milk, iced milk and flavored syrup, without ice cream
  • packie– 'liquor store' (from "package store")
  • rotary– 'traffic circle'
  • tonic– 'soft drink'; the term is retreating in favor of soda among younger speakers.[41] Elsewhere the phrase often has an alcoholic connotation.
  • wicked- 'very'

spring(summer?) is here and how long will these plants live ?

best. hamburger. ever.

Q: What do you get when a Chinese lady and a Jewish guy ( I know this sounds like a joke, but it's not) decide to make a Teriyaki sauce ?

A: SoyVay.  Only the best Teriyaki sauce on the planet
This stuff is like candy, it is kosher, natural, and I have put it on/in everything from steak to chicken to mushrooms to fish to......I am real close to just using a straw......

I just bought a new grill, and found this recipe for the best. hamburger. ever. Featuring, you guessed it SoyVay Veri Veri Teriyaki Sauce...

Name
Gorgeous Quick and Easy Veri Veri Teriyaki Burgers

Serves: 4

Preparation time: 10 mins

Cooking time: 12 minutes

Ingredients:

Approx 450g minced beef, lamb or pork
4 tablespoons ( or more!!!! ) Soy Vay Veri Veri Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce
1 chopped onion
1 crushed garlic clove or 8 sprays of Garlic Valley Farms Freshly Pressed Garlic
1 teaspoon mustard (English or French)
1 teaspoon tomato puree
2 teaspoons tomato ketchup (optional)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 egg, beaten
Salt and freshly ground pepper

1. Mix together the meat, chopped onion, garlic, mustard, tomato puree, tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Veri Veri Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce and season to taste with salt and pepper. Bind the mixture together with the egg. You probably won't need to use all of it.

2. Press the mixture together into patties and chill in the fridge for about 20 minutes before cooking.

3. Barbecue or grill for about 6 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness, until cooked through.

It was like watching the playoffs

Saturdays' Red Sox game was an amazing thing to watch (on Fox Sports, so I was able to watch). The Sox were down 6 - 0 to A.J. Burnett and the Yanks, and I thought, "great, I finally get to watch a game, and they are going to get shut out..." The Fox announcers had to keep giving all the stats about how great A.J. Burnett pitches against the Sox.

Then things started... Jason Varitek' grand slam, Mike Lowell's 6 RBI's, and the score went back and forth, back and forth. I could not leave the TV. It was long (over 4 hours). It was at times frustrating (a ground ball thru Dustin Pedoria's legs). But, in the end it was one of the greatest games I have ever seen, and it is only April...

Final score : Boston Red Sox 16 - New York Yankees 11

have podium mic... will travel to Manhattan next week, looking for a good seafood restaurant ... any suggestions ???

"In North America, the American lobster did not become a popular food until the mid-19th century, when New Yorkers and Bostonians developed a taste for the species..... Prior to this time, eating lobster was considered a mark of poverty or as a food for indentured servants or lower members of society in Maine, Massachusetts and the Canadian Maritimes. Prior to the American Revolutionary War, dock workers in Boston went on strike, protesting having to eat lobster more than three times a week"

vs the evil empire

It's not on TV (in columbus, oh)...

Yanks-Sox tied 4 to 4 in the 9th, are you kidding me ?!??? and I can't watch it...???!!!

Update. From Boston.com : "BOSTON—Jason Bay homered off Mariano Rivera with two outs in the ninth to send the game to extra innings, and Kevin Youkilis hit a solo shot in the 11th on Friday night as the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 5-4 for their eighth straight victory."

How tall does it weigh ?

This Crown Power Amp weighs 77 lbs.
(I'm just sayin')

The word pound comes from the Latin word pondus meaning "weight". The abbreviation lb comes from the Latin word libra, meaning "scales, balances", which also described a Roman unit similar to the pound.

We smile when we are happy

These are actually quite good. Shrimp Flavored Chips from Calbee  "A toasted light snack, with a touch of shrimp."

From the website : "We smile when we are happy. We smile when we experience something tasty. "Happy" and "tasty" are somewhat similar.
Smart snacking can make you feel relaxed and relieve your stress. Whenever there are snacks, there will be smiles and a friendly atmosphere.
Calbee believes that the joy of eating enriches our lives."

Economical numbers

"There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers."
Richard Feynman
US educator & physicist (1918 - 1988)

Yankees lose again

OK, so, the Sox lost, but the Evil Empire is 0 and 2 on the season, and that's good.... I believe that would put the Yanks in last place...

somebody traveling to Boston asked me : "How far is it from Boston to NYC ?"
Me : "Who cares ?"

Digital Vertical Array

we had a rep come in to demo the DVA T4,  a small line-array system, and at 31 pounds (w/built-in amplification) per nice sounding cabinet, I'm sold...

"Since the 90’s the Line-Array technology has changed soundreinforcement drastically. The vertical arrangement of speakers in an enclosure offers a high influence to soundspreading and reduces in comparison to ordinary soundsystems the loss of signal in relation to distance combined with a slim structure and broad sound distribution." more

Weather

Columbus is now under a Tornado Watch. Monday and Tuesday will bring a cold front with snow showers. Nice.

anchor

A young naval student was being put through the paces by an old sea captain.
"What would you do if a sudden storm sprang up on the starboard?" asked the captain.
"Throw out an anchor, sir." replied the naval student.
"What would you do if another storm sprang up aft?" asked the captain.
"Throw out another anchor, sir." answered the student.
"And if another terrific storm sprang up forward, what would you do?" asked the captain.
"Throw out another anchor." replied the student.
"Hold on," said the Captain. "Where are you getting all your anchors from?"
The naval student replied, "From the same place you're getting all of your storms, sir."

This is making me hungry....
